Romance. Friendship. Family. We all strive for all three. But each one of these words is a complete world in itself. And yet, we can’t have one without the other. And we can’t have either one of those things without love. Love is a big word. It means so many different things to so many different people. So here’s the question: Is love really that simple? Or does it have a deeper meaning? I’ll tell you what I think: Love isn’t just something that happens to us; it’s something we choose to do for others. So, this Valentine’s Day, I want to talk to you about my perspective of love.

I have very recently lost someone very special to me. My grandmother passed away just a week before I am writing this article. And while I am still grieving and while some of you may call me crazy for exposing my personal life like that, it prompted me to write. I felt this urge to remind everyone just how important it is to take care of the people you love, as best as you can, because in the end, all we ever leave behind is the love we share.
I believe at its core, love is about caring for each other, respecting one another’s boundaries and needs, and being there for one another when times are tough. It is the most important thing in any relationship, whether between friends, family members, or romantic partners: if there isn’t love present in some form or another, then everything else becomes meaningless.
Love is not about being in love. Passion has nothing to do with what we are talking about today. It’s about how you treat people, how you make them feel, and what difference you can make in this world. Love is what you do with that feeling. Love is a decision, and it’s one of the hardest ones you’ll ever make in your life. It requires sacrifice, accountability and commitment–all things that are much easier said than done.
We live in a world that is filled with hate and violence. We see it all over the news, social media and even in our own communities. It’s easy to get caught up in all this negativity. Which is why we should all move forward with love in our hearts. Be kind to everyone around us, and the world will become a better place. Our little corner of the world at least.
Let me know your opinion on love, I can’t wait to read it!
Until next time.
